STEEL CUT, OLD FASHIONED & QUICK OAT RECIPES

STEEL CUT OATS COOKED SLOW COOKER STYLE:

Steel Cut Oats aren't easy to cook just right.

Steel Cut Oats tend to boil over very easily and are almost impossible to steam. However, it is not difficult to make them without them being too crunchy.

INGREDIENTS:

1. 1/2 cup(120 ml) of Steel Cut Oats
2. 3 1/2 cups(705 ml) Water
3. One 2qt (1.9 L) or 3qt(2.84 L) Saucepan

DIRECTIONS:

1. Pour the water in the saucepan
2. Add the oats and stir with a whisk, I use a vented lid and then put the oats on the burner
3. Turn the burner on until the water is about 150℉(65.5℃) as shown
4. Cook the oats for about 25-30 minutes & watch for boil over
5. When done, take the oats off the burner and let cool
6. After the oats cool, serve and stir in some of your favorite Jam, Jelly or preserves
7. This makes about 5 servings. To reheat a little extra water may be needed

QUICK OATS & GROUND CHICKEN BURGER PATTY

A MEAL WITHOUT A BURGER BUN: And it is easy to prepare and cook without a lot of oil.

INGREDIENTS: Ground Chicken, Quick Oats & optional Sliced Pimentos.

I use from 1 to 3 heaping teaspoons of oats in about 3ozs of ground chicken.

I blend the oats and chicken with a fork. The fork pushes the oats into the chicken better.

I use a spoon to smooth out the surface and level it.

I turn a spoon in toward the mix and make it into a burger shape and smooth it out.

I put the pimentos on the burger and push them in with a fork and smooth it over.

Then I put the burger in a frying pan on low heat and cover it with a glass lid and turn it over several times while it cooks. When it is golden brown I take it out of the pan and let cool before serving it.
